The DIY Guide to Mastering Transcription

I've created a brand new absolutely free guide to learning how to transcribe for banjo. I'm super excited about it.

Essentially all it is is tab with measures and notes left out. There is an accompanying recording for each tab, and your job is to figure out what notes are missing to complete the song. I think it will be really useful for those wanting to break away from tab, but not sure how to start learning by ear. (I'm working on an iPad/iPhone app, so stay tuned :).

This is what I'm offering on for free, as long as you sign up for my mailing list(which is great, because I post lots of useful teaching videos seen on this blog.)

The DIY Guide to Mastering Transcription is essential for the banjo player interested in learning by ear, but not sure where to start and how to proceed.

If you are an intermediate player, and you want to develop your ability to memorize, improvise, and learn by ear, sign up for my mailing list and immediately get the PDF packet and audio files to get you started transcribing.

As a vehicle for learning, I've chosen Foggy Mountain Banjo by Earl Scruggs because the vocabulary and songs on that record are a must-know for bluegrass banjo players.

What you get:

  1. Tablature packet with Introduction (you must read this before you begin).
  2. A slow recording of each song
  3. A fast recordings of each song

Please feel free to comment here if you have questions, and enjoy transcribing!
