I've always been interested in the most efficient and culmulitive ways to learn melodic style banjo. Ways that will eventually allow me to improvise, and be more creative when playing standard bluegrass tunes.
I discovered that approaching melodic style from a scale point of view is really helpful, and lends itself very well to my preferred method of learning - by ear.
We all know what a major scale sounds like, and the patterns stick pretty fast as well, so if we can train our fingers to do what we're hearing, then we're basically training ourselves to become better ear players and improvisors.
Also, this stuff isn't easy on a technical level, either :).
Coming soon: Using these scales to create popular fiddle tune melodies in the key of C!
